For more than two decades, Oscar de las Salas has designed and directed in many different lines, projects in the world of creativity, being recognized for his contributions to the local world of style, from his acclaimed architectural projects and interior designs, as well a respected fashion producer, style critic and writer.

 

A native of Colombia, South America, Oscar studied in Europe and received his masters Interior Architecture & Design at the renowned University of Salamanca in Spain.

 

Before landing in the Valley of the Sun, he worked in several countries as a consultant for interior architecture for the United States Federal Building Office and served as project manager for all interior finish details for the United States Embassies in Bogota (Col.), Lima (Peru), Singapore (Singapore), and Guantanamo (Cuba).

 

While in Europe, Oscar also worked as a fashion catalog model and editorial stage set designer, and has been called a ‘fashionista’ before the term became part of our daily lingo.

 

After arriving in the U.S., Oscar returned to his passion for design, and served as principal with the modern architecture firm, Architectural Alliance Incorporated, for a number of years leading numerous municipal projects in Arizona and the nation - including the award-winning Peoria Fire Station, and the very modern art gallery Gebert Contemporary.

 

In 2012, Oscar used this diverse background to launch his own style journal, www.whatwouldoscardo.com sharing a blend of architectural vision and style insight. Oscar’s own recognizable style and creativity has been showcased in a number of publications, including Phoenix Magazine, JAVA Magazine, Arizona Republic, So Scottsdale Magazine, Modern Luxury Scottsdale Magazine, Trends Magazine, Arizona Red Book, Arizona Latina Magazine, Latino Leaders Magazine, Arizona Latinos, and Prensa Hispana, amongst may other publications.

 

His charming, outspoken nature has also been included in fashion commentary for local broadcasts for ABC, NBC, 3TV, Univision, SiTV, Telemundo, CNN Latino, as well as many other local Latin radio stations. He has also created workshops for upcoming models via Stylos Awards in Phoenix, and shared his insight as a creative director via a book called “Organico” recently published, working hand on hand with photographer Chris Loomis.

 

Oscar has been honored to work with a number of local organizations, notably as a host and emcee for several non-profit foundations where design, fashion, beauty, and culture are the common thread, been the emcee for Brave Wings Fashion Show, Hair Wars, Model Wars, Soy Miss Quince Pageant, Miss Arizona Latina USA, Cortney’s Place Annual Holiday Fashion Show, Dancing for Dental, Scottsdale Polo Championships – Phoenix Fashion Week, amongst others. Recently Oscar covered via TV for the entire Latin-American market, the fashion and design celebrations around the XILX NFL Super Bowl in Phoenix, being the “Fifth Quarter Fashion Show” the highlight of this coverage.

 

He resides in Phoenix, with his husband, Gary, and their pug ‘with a following’, Hugo.
